Reynaldo was born in Los Angeles, California, making him a second generation Angeleno. His mother is from Sonora, Mexico and his father was born in Los Angeles. Reynaldo’s family moved to Inglewood, California in 1945, after World War II when his father returned from the Navy.

Reynaldo attended El Camino College studying Art and Design. After college, he joined the Navy and became a Photographers Mate. Eventually, he was honorably discharged, and he transitioned into the entertainment industry, where he held various jobs: as a laborer, painter, and delivering camera equipment to the studios and commercial houses.

In 1970, Ted Winchester, the head of Paramount Pictures’ camera department, suggested that Reynaldo sign up for the Minority Program, which was offered by the Photographers’ Union, Local 659.

Reynaldo became a second assistant cameraman, working on various television shows including The Odd Couple and The Brady Bunch

In 1975, Reynaldo began working on feature films with Director of Photography, John Alonzo. He spent three years as Alonzo’s first assistant and camera operator, learning many lessons, including how important it is to take chances when lighting and directing.

In 1978, Reynaldo became a Director of Photography on the acclaimed film, URBAN COWBOY, a Paramount Pictures release starring John Travolta and Debra Winger, which was directed by James Bridges.

By 1988, Reynaldo began directing, as well, helming the film, THE HITCHHIKER, for HBO. He followed this film with a number of episodes for a variety of television series and pilots, winning the directorial award from The Cowboy Hall of Fame for Best T.V Western, CONAGHER, starring Sam Elliot and Katherine Ross.

Throughout the years, Reynaldo has built a formidable career as a cinematographer. His long list of credits include the following films: 9 TO 5, RISKY BUSINESS, PUNCHLINE, MAJOR LEAGUE, BLAME IT ON RIO, THE BALLAD OF GREGORIO CORTEZ, AMERICAN ME, A BRONX TALE, DESERT BLOOM, ROMY AND MICHELE’S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION, RETURN TO PARADISE, the miniseries SINATRA and AMERICAN FAMILY (for which he received two Emmy nominations respectively).
